A majority of cable ties offered are made with Nylon 6/6 which is a type of Polyamide. When in its raw form Nylon 6/6 is naturally more of a translucent white and/or can have a light yellow tint. This is why most whitish cable ties are referred to as “Natural” and not white. Black cable ties are molded the same as natural cable ties with one difference, a black pigment is added which is UV Resistant. For most black cable ties produced the black pigment added is less than 1-2%, just enough to give them their black color. For true UV Resistance, 2-5% of the black pigment should be added which will also give the cable ties added weather resistance, you can find this in Panduit and Thomas & Betts cable ties along with UV stabilized products as well. CTU offers all of these products along with our complete 316 Stainless Steel cable ties which will withstand UV exposure and UV rays until they are physically cut off. The 316 stainless steel ties come in standard or with a Black Polyester coating for electrical applications or aesthetics. Since summer, 2020, CTU has experienced a surge in business for the Black Polyester coated stainless steel ties from solar contractors and farms due to their durability and cost-effectiveness. When sourcing or looking for a more permanent cable tie solution for UV exposure/outdoor applications, consider the full 316 stainless steel cable ties as an option.
